Tay Bridge collapse 1879 The Diver
Unlike its crew locomotive NBR 224 built by Thomas Wheatley at Cowlairs Works survived the disaster. Salvaged from the river and repaired it remained in service until 1919.
Crews nicknamed it “The Diver”.
Many drivers were reluctant to take it over the rebuilt Tay bridge.
